#PBJRoadTripSept2016
We are seasoned travelers, quite proficient at the road trip! Twice a year, we travel along the Old Route 66 from Phoenix to Kansas City. It’s a 20+ hour, 2 day trip through multiple states, varied landscapes and all sorts of scenery.
On the road, again, Mom?!? You & Dad can drive. We’re beat…wake us when we get there!
Somewhere near the Arizona/New Mexico border…we found some graffiti! Oh, yes, Mom, let’s stop and pose in front of the fancy paint job!
Thanks to a cocktail of meds from Dr Kelly, our senior boy is handling this roadie with ease! He’s been having problems with nausea, unease, anxiety and car sickness…a 20 hour car ride sounded a little daunting, but we couldn’t leave him behind! Thank goodness all seems to be working out perfectly!
Here we are at the Continental Divide…we have no idea what it is, but we did get to leave our scent and got some treats out of the deal, so it must be a pretty cool thing!
Santa Rosa, New Mexico on the Old Route 66…not sure Daddy’s going to have success filling up at this gas station, but it would be a cheap fill up!
Best gas station, ever!! That’s right, they had a small dog park full of agility course obstacles! We had a blast exploring, trying the obstacles and of course leaving evidence of our presence! We just needed a little more shade.
Quick…strike a pose, so we can get back to playing! It’s like a kiddie park for dogs!
Stardom has gone to his head!! Look how much space he’s taking up. He’s supposed to be sharing the back seat with his siblings!
Toto, I think we’re in Kansas!!
One state down, only four more to go!!
Just outside of Amarillo, Texas is Cadillac Ranch, a public art installation and sculpture. Various Cadillacs have been half buried, nose first in the ground. Writing graffiti or spray painting is actually encouraged, so every time you see the installation it will have a unique look. Mommy wouldn’t let us spray paint, because she said we would probably just turn the spray paint on each other!
Just in case you needed further proof of our skills, this is what happens when an entire tour bus unloads and photobombs you!!
Fifteen hours in the car, but we made it to Albuquerque! Do our brains look a little fried?!? It’s okay, we got dinner and we’re now resting on the bed. What is it about traveling that makes you want to sleep, even when you’ve been sleeping all day in the car?
Photos ops have not gone as planned today! It was pouring rain when we crossed the state line into Arizona, so no photo with the welcome sign. In Winslow, there was a radio station set up in the exact spot where we wanted to take a photo. Their tent completely blocked the display...so disappointing! So instead, we took a photo in front of an abandoned concrete teepee at the Meteor City Trading Post. Hmph!
Ahh, nothing quite like seeing the desert mountains and feeling the warm desert air blow across your face. We’re almost home! (And, yes, at least three other people took our photo while we were sitting here! We just keep working on that celebrity status!)
There’s nothing quite like the feeling of coming home! If you need us, we’ll be out here chilling by the pool! Bring us those pina coladas, Mom!
