#HikingLookoutMountain
Although there are so many mountains and trails to climb in Phoenix, it's easy for us to just stay in our area and climb the trails we know. Today, we ventured into North Phoenix and hiked to the top of Lookout Mountain! The views of the city were amazing...you could see for miles and miles...and everything looked so tiny...even downtown Phoenix!
We went rock climbing today! Mommy & Daddy had to help us in a few places where the rocks were too big for our little legs. But, for the most part, we scrambled up the rocks like we were professionals!
We discovered that Pebbles hikes like a rock star when she’s not wearing booties. We totally intended to carry her during this hike, since yesterday’s hike seemed to really tire her out, so we didn’t bring her booties along. But, when we arrived, she was off and hiking before we could even think about picking her up. So, we let her go. She was full steam ahead, tackling the boulders and rocks like they were no big deal. She and Bruiser made it all the way to the top on their very own!
On the count of three, everybody look away from the camera!
Leave it to Pebbles to find the only teeny tiny spot of shade at the top of the mountain! And, she looks so proud of herself, as well!
Woah! Someone must have turned up the heat…Benji’s tongue is out! Alert the authorities, it’s a heat wave! (For those that don’t know…the Benji tongue is a rare sighting! It doesn’t make an appearance very often, so when it does, we shout it from the roof tops!)
I imagine there was a time in Benji’s life when he never knew the joy of being at the top of the mountain, feeling the heat of the sun, and the wind through his hair, smelling nature mixed with the city below him. It warms my heart to know that time is in the past, and this is a feeling he will get to feel over and over again! For as long as he looks at me with that face, I’ll backpack him anywhere he wants to go!
